Quickest: a free online viewer
To just look at a DXF, open a free browser-based DXF viewer, drop the file in and view it, with nothing to install. Good ones render the file locally so it never leaves your device. This is all you need to check a file before sending or cutting it.
Free desktop programs to edit
To edit, use a free CAD or vector tool:
- LibreCAD and FreeCAD: free, open-source CAD that read and edit DXF.
- Inkscape: free vector editor that imports and exports DXF.
- Autodesk's free viewer: opens DXF and DWG for viewing without an AutoCAD licence.
To cut it
For laser or CNC, your machine's software opens DXF directly. LightBurn and most CAM tools import it as cut paths. If you are not sure the file is ready, check it against how to prepare a DXF for laser cutting.
